INDIANAPOLIS (April 12, 2021) --   In 2020, Indiana’s life sciences companies accessed over $9 billion in capital to grow and support innovation. The funding comes from a variety of sources including Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) awards, venture capital, initial public offerings and related public offerings, and mergers and acquisitions. BioCrossroads today issued their annual report, Indiana Life Sciences Capital 2020, which provides details on the funding events throughout the year. The $9 billion includes: $12.6 million SBIR awarded to 21 companies. $262 million in venture capital invested in 44 companies. $141.8 million accessed through public markets by three companies. $8.6 billion+ spent to acquire innovation, representing nine transactions. INDIANAPOLIS, (March 25, 2021) --   While COVID-19 continues to make the headlines, Indiana’s life sciences industry not only combatted the pandemic with testing, treatments, clinical trials, and vaccine manufacturing but remained committed to innovating and investing throughout 2020. New data provided to BioCrossroads by the Indiana Business Research Center (IBRC) at the Indiana University Kelley School of Business shows a thriving and growing sector. AgriNovus Indiana, an initiative focused on growing Indiana’s agbioscience economy, has released a comprehensive study that found the sector directly contributes more than $39 billion to the state’s economy. Conducted by TEConomy Partners, the study, Innovative Agbioscience in Indiana: 2020 Assessment, identified more than six percent growth in the industry from 2012 to 2018, with an average wage of $51,825, more than eight percent higher than the statewide average.

Conexus Indiana, in partnership with Indiana University Kelley School of Business Center for Excellence in Manufacturing, has released a study that shows Indiana advanced manufacturing and logistics companies are in various stages of adopting smart manufacturing technologies and identifies a path forward to help spur widespread technology adoption among Indiana manufacturers of all sizes. Without widespread adoption of advanced technologies, study authors say, Indiana risks falling behind increasingly tougher global competition. “Charting Indiana’s Path from Early Adoption to Widespread Application of Industry 4.0 Technologies,” surveyed 380 Indiana advanced manufacturing and logistics companies from a wide cross-section of businesses across the state. Industry 4.0 is the move toward smart manufacturing where autonomous technologies, smart systems and data and machine learning promise to significantly improve manufacturing operations.

CICP 2019 Annual Report

With the release of its 2019 annual report, CICP looks back at an ambitious year for the organization and its six key talent and industry sector initiatives, AgriNovus Indiana, Ascend Indiana, BioCrossroads, Conexus Indiana, Energy Systems Network and TechPoint. The initiatives represent agbiosciences, talent and workforce development, life sciences, advanced manufacturing and logistics, energy technology and technology, respectively. While CICP reflects on its history and the deep legacy of its work, it also has a sharp focus on the future and, in particular, a visionary project that spreads to all borders of Indiana, the Indiana GPS Project – Growth and Prosperity in the State. Made possible through a grant from Lilly Endowment Inc., CICP is leading a multi-dimensional study of Indiana’s economy designed to focus business priorities and spur intentional growth across the entire state of Indiana.
